NEARLY 60 years after their aircraft filled the skies over the New Forest, American air force veterans and their families returned to the former Holmsley airfield near Bransgore yesterday for a poignant memorial service. The 394th Bomb Group, equipped with Martin B-26 Marauder bombers, were stationed at Holmsley for barely six weeks in the summer of 1944, flying sorties in support of the Allied advance following the D-Day landings before moving to France.Flyers and ground crew were remembered in a simple service held at the Holmsley airfield memorial erected
